How to: No-Flash Lifestyle Portrait Technique

If you haven’t heard of Serge Ramelli, prepare to be thoroughly entertained. Serge is full of knowledge, inspiration, and charisma to boot. It’s hard NOT to learn something from him. Serge posts two video tutorials every week on YouTube, and is definitely worth subscribing to if you do any processing work in Lightroom.

In the following video, Serge demonstrates his technique for shooting portraits into the sun, with no flash. Using the power of Lightroom to squeeze every last pixel out of a RAW file, Serge shows you how to accomplish the seemingly impossible to produce gorgeous, natural looking portraits without the need for a hefty lighting setup. Of course, using artificial lighting would afford far more flexibility, but this technique is great for everyday shooting and will produce outstanding, usable results.
