The Hot Shoe Diaries – New book from Joe McNally

March 17th, 2009 No comments

As one of those few crazy folks who still loves to learn from a book, I’ve got a recommendation for anyone who is eager to get more out of their flash photography technique. They say if you are going to learn something, why not learn from the best? Joe McNally is one of the world’s most accomplished photographers, and he’s back with another gem of a book entitled: The Hot Shoe Diaries: Big Light from Small Flashes

When it comes to photography, it’s all about the light. In this book, Joe candidly shares his real-world techniques of how he lights his shoots and subjects using only small hot shoe flashes. From urban landscapes, to nature photography, to portrait shooting (indoor and out), this book is the new bible for mastering flash photography.

As with all our book recommendations, Amazon visitors will save vastly off the cover price of $39.99 and be able to purchase this book for only $26.39 (also eligable for free super saver shipping!). The educational and practical value is well worth it, making The Hot Shoe Diaries: Big Light from Small Flashes our book of the month.

The Sandcarvers CD Release Event

March 6th, 2009 1 comment

sandcarversAs artistic photographers, we all appreciate art in its many forms. Along with photography, what better form of art is there than music! As seen in our recent Anniversary Issue of the PhotographyBB Magazine Online, our good friend and author Gareth Glynn Ash contributed an excellent article on how to take better concert photos. Gareth featured some great photos of The Sandcarvers, a band with which Gareth has a close connection to (his wife is a member of this smokin band). The Sandcarvers will be celebrating the release of their latest CD on March 13th, 2009 entitled “Whiskey Tango Foxtrot” at Shank Hall, Milwaukee, WI. Read on for some free tracks off the new CD (highly recommended!) and more information on the release party. Read more…

July 18th, 2008 No comments

If you are looking for a good book on how to improve your people photography and portraitures, then look no further than Skin: The Complete Guide to Digitally Lighting, Photographing, and Retouching Faces and Bodies.

I had a chance to browse through this book at my local bookstore, and I immediately came home to order it through Amazon (at a fraction of the cover price of course!). I consider this book to be the bible for portrait photography AND retouching people in Photoshop. This book covers everything from lighting setup (both basic, intermediate, and professional), to portraiture photographic techniques, to processing specially for “skin.” Here’s a book that can truly help both the amateur AND the professional in both areas of photography and post-processing.

The InvisibleSHIELD – Protecting Digital Devices

April 9th, 2008 3 comments

Here’s a great commercial spoof I found on YouTube the other day, demonstrating the InvisibleSHIELD. I’ll leave my comments until after the end of the video, so as not to ruin it. I’m sure everyone has seen the latest MacBook Air commercial by now?

Get the invisibleSHIELD with Free Shipping

We at PhotographyBB personally own several of these screen protectors not only for our cameras, but for our Blackberry and notebooks also. They are by far the best investment we’ve ever made in an accessory, perfect for when you are out and about, or out in the field on a photo shoot.

Check out their website to see if they have an invisibleSHIELD for your device.
