New Photo Assignment: Long Exposure

February 17th, 2010 No comments

Exposure_Assignment

It’s been a short break from our usual biweekly assignments, but our photography assignments are back! What are the photo assignments all about? Our photography assignments are engineered to challenge our members by having you shoot photos based on a given theme. The themes are designed to inspire and help photographers break out of their shells, and push the boundaries of your creativity and photography, thus making us all better photographers in the process. Assignments are open to everyone, you must simply be a member of the PhotographyBB Forums. If you are not yet a member, please consider joining and participating in the fun – it’s free afterall!

Your assignment theme is: Long Exposure (1-second or longer).

That’s right! We want to see what you can come up with, given the theme above. Your exposure must be longer than 1-second (up to any length), so think hard about all of the things you can capture given the parameters of having a long exposure. Tip: A long exposure doesn’t necessarily have to capture motion in the photo. As with all challenges, you may submit up to 3 photos, and photos MUST be taken during the assignment time window (Feb 17th – Mar 3rd, 2010). Top choices will be selected and published in an upcoming issue of the PhotographyBB Online Magazine.

Entries must be submitted here. Click to view and/or submit your photo.

Be creative, have fun, and happy photographing!

Show Us Christmas in Your Town and Get Published

December 11th, 2009 No comments

XMASWORLD

We are going to be running a very special feature in our upcoming Decemeber 2009 edition of the PhotographyBB Online Magazine. Since it’s Christmastime where many places and cultures celebrate differently, we would like to showcase this in the upcoming edition of our magazine.

Theme: Christmas Around The World

We’re doing this one a little bit differently, there will be some submission requirements here as we will be making a selection of images from this challenge to be used in the Dec 2009 online magazine. Please only submit photos which you are volunteering to be potentially published in our online magazine (as with all of our assignments!).

Requirements:

  1. Photo MUST be sized to (at least) 1024 pixels along it’s longest edge (We can use the largest size you have posted here).
  2. If you would like to have your name published along with the image, please include your first and last name. (otherwise we’ll use your Flickr account name)
  3. A title for your image
  4. Include a brief paragraph description of where your photo was taken, including any of your comments on what the photo is all about. (ie. festivities, decorations, traditions, food, etc…)

Four simple requirements! Also, if you are able to provide any EXIF data such as Shutter Speed / Aperture / IS0 / Camera model then that would be great too.

Since many folks like to travel to visit family around the holidays, I realize you may have photos from previous Christmas seasons (and locations) which you would like to share. For this “assignment”, we hope you are able to take new photos, but due to the limited time window (plus we want to see the world here too!), we WILL accept photos taken from previous Christmas seasons.

Photos can be submitted here:

Deadline is Dec 17th, 2009. Happy Photographing!

Photo Assignment: Concentricity

December 1st, 2009 2 comments

concentricity

Welcome back to your latest photo assignment. Remember, the whole purpose of these assignments is to get our members thinking outside of their regular comfort zones, which will ultimately help us all improving in all aspects of our photography (plus it’s fun!). The theme for this assignment comes from a suggestion by our good friend (and forum moderator extraordinaire!), Nobby, so many thanks for this excellent suggestion!

Your assignment theme is: Concentricity

For those of you who are thinking “Hmm… I better look this one up to be sure…” here is the definition: “Concentricity: Having a common center or center point, as of (concentric) circles or other shapes.” This assignment should prove to be challenging (which is the point!), so put your thinking caps on, grab your gear, and get to shooting! As with all of the assignments, we ask that you only submit entries which have been photographed during the assignment window (Nov 26th to Dec 10th, 2009), and you may submit up to 3 photos per assignment. The top choices by our editorial team will also be selected and published in a future issue of the PhotographyBB Online Magazine.

Our resident Lightroom expert goes through the ins and outs of the Library Module this month.
