Great work on the previous assignment which proved to be a real challenge! Just in time for the weekend, we’ve posted our latest photo assignment to the forums which runs until July 28th. Why should you participate in photo assignments? In our efforts to help photographers grow and improve, our photography assignments are designed to test and push your creative bounds to the limit. These photo assignments are intended to encourage our members to see the world in different ways, try new camera techniques, and photograph subject which you may normally shy away from. We feel that in doing this, you will ultimately find new challenges for yourself which will help us to all grow as photographers.

Our photography assignments are open to everyone at all skill levels and are to be submitted through our assignments section in the PhotographyBB Forums. Membership is completely free and you can register in seconds, so feel free to join our community of photographers where we participate in assignments, share photos, and discuss photography all day long! Assignment #40 Theme: Cups
Timeframe: July 16th to July 28th, 2010
The challenge is to take a BRAND NEW showing the them: Cups

The real challenge with this assignment will be for you to decide how you will photograph such an everyday object in such a way that it becomes an interesting photograph for the viewer. Pay close attention to things like the lighting, the environment and background of the scene, and also your shooting angles and tell us the story behind your “cups” photo. We will accept any type of cup in the shot including mugs, glasses, etc…

Important: With all of our photo assignments, the object (besides having fun) is to learn something new, even if that means learning how to see the world around you in a different way. Therefore, we only accept entries for new photos which have been taken during the assignment time frame (see above). You may submit up to 3 entries in total, and the top 3 photos will be selected and published (with image acknowledgments) in an upcoming issue of the PhotographyBB Online Magazine.

These photo assignments are intended to encourage our members to see the world in different ways, try new camera techniques, and photograph subject which you may normally shy away from. Assignment #39 Theme: Affirmative!
Timeframe: July 2nd to July 14th, 2010
The challenge is to take a BRAND NEW photo which depicts the “Affirmative!”

This should be a fun challenge, as you have complete creative liberty to photograph any subject which demonstrates “the affirmative” such as Go, Enter, Positive, Yes, Open, On, etc… It’s all up to you, so grab those cameras and show us what you’ve got!

Our last assignment (Black and White) brought in some fantastic submissions, and we are looking forward to seeing what our members can come up with this time around. Assignment #38 Theme: Your Hobbies
Timeframe: June 18th to June 30th, 2010
The challenge is to take a BRAND NEW photo which shows us “Your Hobbies” (besides photography)

That’s right – no photos of lenses or cameras here! Show us one (or more) of the other joys in your lives which make us all passionate individuals. Welcome to your newest photo challenge! In our efforts to help photographers grow and improve, our photography assignments are designed to test and push your creative bounds to the limit. These photo assignments are intended to encourage our members to see the world in different ways, try new camera techniques, and photograph subject which you may normally shy away from.

We recently blogged about the release of The Magic of Black and White – Part II ebook by Andrew S. Gibson, who teaches his readers about both the photography and processing techniques for creating stunning black and white images. We’d like to keep that theme going, by challenging you with this photo assignment:

Assignment #37 theme: Black and White
Timeframe: June 3rd to June 16th, 2010
The challenge is to take a BRAND NEW photo in the theme of “Black and White.”

Since we are all working in the new digital era of photography, post processing is naturally a large part of the game. For this reason, we will be selecting our top choices based on the overall composition of the photo, as well as your black and white processing technique. Also, we will include submissions that are toned or tinted (ie. Sepia, etc…).

Assignment #36 theme: Color Contrast
Timeframe: May 14th to May 31st, 2010
The challenge is to take a BRAND NEW photo which demonstrates color contrast.

There are many ways to draw attention to the main subject of a photograph, one of them being the use of color contrast. In this challenge, take a new photo (you may submit up to 3) which draws attention to the subject through the use of color contrast (opposing colors).

Assignment #35 theme: Old Technology
Timeframe: Apr 28tht to May 12th, 2010
The challenge is to take a BRAND NEW photo which depicts the subject, “Old Technology.”

The key to being successful when taking object/item based photos is not only to find an interesting subject, but also to take an interesting photo of the subject; which is the challenge here. Our team is looking forward to seeing all of your creative entries!

It seems that as of late, many of us are spending more of time learning about cameras and photography than actually practicing our photography. What better way to practice than to participate in a photo assignment with your friends and peers. With that said, the latest PhotographyBB photo assignment has been posted to the PhotographyBB Community Forums. Everyone out there is encouraged to get involved and participate in the assignments. Photo assignments are designed to challenge by getting us to push our creative boundaries, provide subject matter which may be “outside the box” for some of us, and help us to learn new techniques and grow as photographers.

Our latest photo assignment theme is: Springtime
Timeframe: Apr 1st to Apr 14th, 2010
The challenge is to take a BRAND NEW photo which shows off the feeling of “Springtime,” be it the Easter holiday, the weather, the colours, or any other way you can think of to creatively evoke the feeling spring.

The latest PhotographyBB photo assignment has been posted to the PhotographyBB Community Forums. Everyone out there is encouraged to get involved and participate in the assignments. Photo assignments are designed to challenge by getting us to push our creative boundaries, provide subject matter which may be “outside the box” for some of us, and help us to learn new techniques and grow as photographers.

The challenge is to take a BRAND NEW photo where the focal point or main subject matter of the image relates to “numbers.”

PhotographyBB Contest Extended!

Due to the overwhelming positive responses I’ve been receiving, along with the many requests for an extension on this contest, we’ve decided to run this contest for one additional month. At PhotographyBB, we firmly believe in a life long learning process, hence the decision to extend this contest! If you are not familiar with the contest yet, here’s how it goes:

Beginners are free to ask any photography or image processing related questions they have on their mind, and our more experienced members (“experts”) are free to add their responses to the questions. At the end of the new deadline (April 5th, 2010), we’ll be picking one beginner question, and one “expert” answer to receive a prize pack each! Here are the details and rules one more time:

Beginners: Ask Your Questions!
We want all of the great folks who are just getting started with photography, digital SLR cameras, and image processing to put on your thinking caps and ask any question you may have burning inside you. There are 3 categories for you to post your questions in, and they MUST follow a specific format (see the brief “Rules” section for details).

The categories are:

Beginner’s Rules:

All questions must be submitted in the CORRECT category in the PhotographyBB Forums. If you are not yet a forum member, registration is extremely fast and free. Any questions submitted into the wrong category will be eliminated.
When posting a question, the SUBJECT line of your posting must be related to your question. For example, we will not accept subject lines that read, “I need help!”. An example of an appropriate subject line would be, “What is Manual Mode?” If your question is a long one (which is great) please title the subject line appropriately so the “experts” can have some idea what the posted question will be regarding.
Maximum of 5 questions per person.
Contest period runs from Feb 5th to March 5th, 2010.

Experts: Share Your Knowledge!
To all of our more experienced members and those of you who enjoy sharing knowledge and helping others, we haven’t forgotten you! We want you to post your answers to the beginners’ questions, and since we want to encourage your participation you may answer as many questions as you can. There are some rules for our expert submissions too, namely:

You may answer as many questions as you would like to, however, the most thorough and easy to understand responses will be most likely to win our “experts” prize package.
If a response to a question has already been posted, you are still free to add to the reply. Once we feel that the question has been answered appropriately and thoroughly, the thread will be locked.

That’s really all there is to it folks! Once again, we will have 2 prize packages, one for the beginners and one for the experts. The winner of the beginners contest will receive Scott Kelby’s “The Digital Photography Book” volumes 1 through 3. The winner of the experts contest will receive a copy of “VisionMongers” by David duChemin. Both groups will also receive our entire collection of Premium Photoshop Actions. There will be some additional prizes to be added, which we will reveal shortly! Check out the categories, have fun asking and answering questions, and in the process we’ll be helping the whole photography community!

New Photo Assignment: Long Exposure

It’s been a short break from our usual biweekly assignments, but our photography assignments are back! What are the photo assignments all about? Our photography assignments are engineered to challenge our members by having you shoot photos based on a given theme. The themes are designed to inspire and help photographers break out of their shells, and push the boundaries of your creativity and photography, thus making us all better photographers in the process. Assignments are open to everyone, you must simply be a member of the PhotographyBB Forums. If you are not yet a member, please consider joining and participating in the fun – it’s free afterall!

Your assignment theme is: Long Exposure (1-second or longer).

That’s right! We want to see what you can come up with, given the theme above. Your exposure must be longer than 1-second (up to any length), so think hard about all of the things you can capture given the parameters of having a long exposure. Tip: A long exposure doesn’t necessarily have to capture motion in the photo. As with all challenges, you may submit up to 3 photos, and photos MUST be taken during the assignment time window (Feb 17th – Mar 3rd, 2010). Top choices will be selected and published in an upcoming issue of the PhotographyBB Online Magazine.
